Gamecocks’ Jared Brown Gives Back to Community Through Harvest Hope
Columbia, SC – South Carolina wide receiver Jared Brown is making a meaningful impact by supporting local food resources. Inspired by his grandparents’ reliance on food banks, Brown took action by partnering with UnitedHealthcare to aid Harvest Hope during their recent Senior Day event.
Joining teammate Mazeo Bennett, Brown contributed $3,000 from his Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) earnings. "It just means more to me,” Brown stated. “I’m just a giving guy… to show them the right way."
Last Thursday, the players assisted volunteers in distributing essential food items—like fresh produce and canned goods—to over 200 individuals from the Emergency Food Pantry. Brown expressed his newfound admiration for Harvest Hope, stating, "This is a magnificent place… I’m going to put everybody on notice about what they’re doing."
Harvest Hope, South Carolina’s largest food bank, provides over 25 million meals annually to families in need. Typically, the Emergency Food Pantry serves over 100 families each day, with Senior Day events significantly increasing attendance.
Reflecting on his philanthropic efforts, Brown remarked, “It feels good… It is a blessing.” His commitment exemplifies how student-athletes can positively influence their communities.
