Joyce Edwards Selected for U.S. Team at 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball sophomore Joyce Edwards has earned a spot on the U.S. national team for the upcoming 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, set to take place in Santiago, Chile, from July 28 to August 6. This achievement marks her third consecutive summer representing the United States on the international stage.
As the Gamecocks’ leading scorer on last season’s national runner-up team, Edwards is among five Southeastern Conference (SEC) players selected for the prestigious 12-player roster. In Chile, she may compete against former and current Gamecock teammates, who are vying for their nations’ teams.
Edwards aims for her third gold medal in as many international tournaments, having won titles with the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup and the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup teams. Her impressive performances include being named MVP of the U18 AmeriCup, where she averaged 14.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. Additionally, at the U19 World Cup, she secured a spot on the All-Star Five after contributing 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.
In her inaugural college season, Edwards earned recognition as an All-America honorable mention and was named to the All-SEC First Team. She led the Gamecocks in scoring with an average of 12.7 points per game, helping her team clinch the SEC Regular-Season Championship and reach the National Championship game.
The U.S. team will begin their journey with a training camp in Colorado Springs before heading to Santiago. Their first match in Group B will be against host nation Chile, followed by games against Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. The AmeriCup champions will secure a berth in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin.
