Shooting During Juneteenth Celebration in South Carolina Leaves One Dead, Ten Injured
Anderson, SC—A tragic incident marred the Juneteenth celebration on Saturday night when a shooting erupted at a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post, resulting in at least ten injuries and one fatality. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the violent outbreak occurred following a fight in the parking lot, in front of a large crowd celebrating the sixth annual event.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, transporting one critically injured victim to Greenville Memorial Hospital, along with eight others to local hospitals in Anderson and Greenville. Witnesses described a chaotic aftermath as attendees fled the area, leaving behind shoes and other debris.
In total, over 50 law enforcement personnel from various agencies responded to restore order. The sheriff’s office stated that the investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to gather evidence and pursue leads in the case.
"This remains an active investigation, and our detectives and deputies are working diligently on this unfolding scene," the agency noted.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
