University of South Carolina Mourns the Passing of Hall of Fame Member Dave DeCamilla at 77
The University of South Carolina (USC) community is mourning the loss of Dave DeCamilla, a celebrated member of the USC Athletic Hall of Fame and a distinguished former football player. DeCamilla passed away at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of excellence both on and off the field.
DeCamilla played as an offensive lineman from 1968 to 1970 under the direction of coach Paul Dietzel. He earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in both 1969 and 1970 and was recognized as an honorable mention All-American in his senior year. His contributions were pivotal in securing the 1969 ACC Championship for the Gamecocks.
In recognition of his outstanding performance, DeCamilla was ranked as one of the top 11 Gamecock football players of all time in a 2017 article by The State newspaper. He was also inducted into the USC All-Time Football Team in 2009 and received the honor of entering the USC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
Beyond football, DeCamilla earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from USC in 1970 and a Master’s degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from Michigan State University in 1971. He had a successful career in finance, serving since 1998 as President and Chief Investment Officer at DeCamilla Capital Management, LLC in Sacramento, California.
DeCamilla is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean, their daughter Emily, and his brothers JB and Mark. Funeral services are yet to be announced. The USC community remembers DeCamilla as a person of great character and an exemplary athlete, leaving behind a lasting impact on his family, friends, and teammates.
