South Carolina Welcomes Wesley Mallette as New Athletic Director
COLUMBIA, SC — The University of South Carolina has announced the appointment of Wesley Mallette as the new Chief Marketing Officer and Deputy Athletics Director, effective immediately. Mallette previously served as the Athletics Director at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where he demonstrated exemplary leadership and innovative marketing strategies that transformed the athletics program.
Jeremiah Donati, South Carolina’s Athletics Director, expressed enthusiasm about Mallette joining the Gamecock family, highlighting his extensive experience in marketing, branding, and communications as critical assets in navigating the evolving landscape of college athletics. "Wes brings a wealth of energy and experience. He will be a great addition to our leadership team, making a positive impact on Gamecock student-athletes," said Donati.
During his tenure at UCR, Mallette successfully managed the athletics department through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring its survival while promoting academic and athletic excellence. His accomplishments include securing a significant partnership with Nike and achieving record fundraising milestones in recent years.
Mallette expressed his excitement about the new role, emphasizing his eagerness to contribute to the university’s rich tradition and enhance the Gamecock Athletics brand. "Working alongside talented staff and student-athletes is a dream come true," he said.
With over two decades of experience in athletics, communications, and marketing, Mallette has held various high-level positions, including at UC Berkeley and Pac-12 Networks. His diverse background includes media training for athletes and senior roles in major corporations such as MTV Networks and Victoria’s Secret.
Mallette lives in Columbia with his family, excited to make a lasting impact on South Carolina athletics and its community.
