Arsonist being sought by police following fire at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s home

Pennsylvania State Police are currently looking for an arsonist who caused significant damage to the official residence of Governor Josh Shapiro in Harrisburg. The incident occurred at 2 a.m. on Sunday when the Shapiro family was woken up by banging on the door from state police. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the fire was extinguished with the help of authorities who evacuated the family.

Shapiro expressed his gratitude towards law enforcement and first responders who risk their lives to protect communities. He has four children with his wife, Sophia, Jonah, Max, and Reuben, though it’s unclear if the adult children were home during the incident. Just hours before the attack, Shapiro shared Passover well wishes on social media, reflecting his Jewish faith.

State police are conducting a multiagency investigation into the arson and offering a $10,000 reward for information. Shapiro, a Democrat elected in 2022 after serving as the state’s attorney general, was previously considered as a potential running mate for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race. He has a favorable approval rating in Pennsylvania, surpassing even pop sensation Taylor Swift in a September poll. The investigation into the arson at the governor’s residence is ongoing, with authorities confirming it was an intentional act of arson.
