South Carolina Churches Shine in National Growth Rankings
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Eight churches in South Carolina have made headlines by ranking among the top 100 fastest-growing churches in the United States, according to a recent report by Lifeway Research. This ranking, which has been compiled since 2015, focuses on churches’ average in-person attendance rather than membership numbers. Data is sourced from surveys completed by the churches, with attendance figures from February and March 2024 compared to the previous year.
Leading the way for South Carolina is First Baptist Simpsonville, which ranked 9th overall, significantly climbing 42 spots from last year. Founded in 1888, the church now boasts an impressive average attendance of 4,236.
Conway’s The Rock also ranks prominently at 25th, with an average attendance of 3,082. Just a few spots behind, Myrtle Beach’s Palmetto Pointe Church of God earns the 56th position with 1,375 attendees. Also hailing from Myrtle Beach, Beach Church occupies the 58th spot, gathering an average of 1,554 participants.
LowCountry Community Church in Bluffton comes in at 57th with an attendance of 2,347, while TrueNorth Church in North Augusta ranks 65th with 2,445 attendees. Simpsonville’s Brookwood Church finishes 79th, reporting an attendance of 2,922. Rounding out South Carolina’s representation is Ekklesia Christian Church from Conway, which ranked 92nd with an average attendance of 1,698.
These rankings not only highlight the growing vitality of worship communities in South Carolina but also reflect the region’s diverse religious landscape. The surge in attendance across these churches illustrates a robust engagement in spiritual life within the state.
